Founder

Current
Neighborhoods Resource Center - Aka Neighbor 2 Neighbor

I led the development of Neighborhoods Resource Center, Inc. from a glimmer of an idea to its creation, development, and blossoming as a premier resident-focused, community engagement not-for-profit charitable corporation. This work was made possible by the support of many, many neighborhood and community leaders here in Nashville, Tennessee, and cities around the country. As a final action, in 2010, I created the Center for Neighborhood and Community Action, located in the NRC’s new and freshly restored home – Nashville's Historic Firehall #1. I hope it to be a physical manifestation of my vision of the future of neighborhoods – a place where neighborhoods and their leaders can come to learn, network, grow, and receive assistance with their community improvement initiatives. This was made possible through the help of my Board, friends, the Historic Germantown Nashville neighborhood, Metro Nashville Government, The Frist Foundation, The HCA Foundation, The Memorial Foundation, The James Stephen Turner Family Foundation, my family, and other anonymous and generous contributors.

Nashville Neighborhood Alliance, Inc.

The Nashville Neighborhood Alliance, Inc., was a stellar example of a truly grassroots organization. Born from the hard work of representatives of about 25 neighborhood groups in Davidson County, Tennessee, it grew to, at the end of my tenure, an institution that had the participation of over 175 community-based groups. Our high standards, uncompromising ethics, and ability to manage complex projects combined with a huge commitment of time helped move the ideal of citizen-based public policy participation and decision-making to fruition. Our Community Engagement initiatives included Action on Nashville’s Agenda, Air Pollution Control, Animal Control Advisory Committee, Cellular Towers, Community Livability Index, Community Policing Task Group, Consumer Protection Legislation, Council Redistricting Process, Day Care Standards, Defendable Space Promotion, Environmental Court, Excellence In Development, Floodplain Protection, Graffiti Task Force, Greenways, Healthy Nashville 2000+, High Voltage Powerline Task Group, Historic Preservation, Housing Trust Fund, League of Women Voters/NNA Candidate and Issue Forums, Mayor’s Police Operation Committee, Nashville Coalition Against Racism, Nashville Healthcare Partnership, Nashville’s Agenda, NashvilleNext, Nashville Area Livability Study, Nashville’s Neighborhoods—Homes Not Hotels, Nashville’s Night Out Against Crime 1995-02, Nashville Sponsoring Committee, Neighborhood Crime and Safety Council (Founder), Neighborhood Planning Process, Recycling Program Initiatives, Sign Ordinance, Solid Waste Consortium, Solid Waste Management Review, Spot Blight Ordinance, Storm Water Management Committees, Subarea Planning Citizen Advisory Committees 1-14, Tornado Recovery Efforts, Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Task Force, Tree Ordinance, Violence Prevention Coalition, Zoning Advisory Committee, Zoning Codes Review Team.

National Partnership was made by invitation only and was subject to intensive submission requirements. Board members were elected from the group as a whole. This honor, being a member of the Board, was the culmination of my work getting data sets from some very difficult providers, giving each point of data, and then combining them with a variety of other data to create a meaningful visualization to neighborhood leaders, non-profits and sometimes government itself.
