Working as a barista, I participate in essentially every aspect of the shop. This includes working the cash register, making drinks, and cleaning behind the counter and in the lobby. In September 2013 I was promoted to Student Supervisor. As a supervisor I am expected to ensure that other students are upholding all the standards of both Starbucks and the university’s campus dining services. When working a closing shift, I also am responsible for counting the drawer and locking up the restaurant.

My focus was a project to improve the results of Cerner's UCern search engine. While data was being collected every time a user searched the UCern database, the information was not yet being fully utilized to increase search result relevancy to a user's query. My project focused on translating this raw data into useful information. In order to accomplish this, I worked with Oracle/PLSQL, Java, and the Apache Solr Java utility, Solrj. I also worked frequently with tools such as Eclipse, Junit tests, Mockito, Apache Maven, Apache Solr, Atlassian Jira issue tracking, and Atlassian Crucible code review. My team utilized the agile development methodology along with test-driven development. Additionally, every morning the team held a scrum during which we would update the task board and explain what we did the day before and what we planned to work on that day.
