Spindle/Brushless motor qualification.• Qualified motors for 2 products.• Improve the efficiency of 1 motor from 65% to 85%.• Defined and wrote Test Procedures.Test Tools development for Spindle motors• Test system that allow measurement of BEMF during spindown. Unique feature of this test allowed for measurement of Fluid Dynamic Bearing torque and windage friction.• Numerous other spindle motor related test tools utilizing LabView.

Mechatronics test tool designer. • Developed a Six Axis Force Measurement System using Labview, that allowed for quantification of the forces and moments generated by magnetics inside of the Brushless Motor that were responsible for acoustic emissions of the disc drive. The data from this test was input to FEM as forcing functions to predict the frequencies of acoustic emissions.• Vibration Test System using Labview, that excited the resonant structures of the disc drive and Hydro-dynamic modes of the Fluid Dynamic Bearing allowing evaluation of the spindle motion that resulted in degraded performance of the disc drive.• Electrometer Measurement System using Labview, that allowed the measurement of the oil conductivity in the Fluid Dynamic Bearing.• Numerous other lab test tools using Labview.Management of Motor Qualification Team.• Established and grew a team of Motor Qualification Engineers for qualification of Brushless Motor Spindles used in the disc drives.• Defined test parameters needed to qualify motors.• Developed hardware, electronics and software to perform defined tests. Manager Engineering Verification Test Lab.• Established the first EVT lab in Longmont facility when it was Conner Peripherals. • Purchased and set up equipment for Shock and Vib Test lab.• Purchased and set up Semi Anechoic Sound Chamber and accompanying equipment.• Defined and wrote Test Procedures.• Hired test lab team members and grew it to 3 people.

Worked on project to develop first Sensorless Spindle Motor Driver Electronics system used in MiniScribe products.• Coordinated with motor venders to design motor compatible with Sensorless Driver.• Responsible for development of unique system of Sensorless Brushless DC Motor Drive electronics. • Drove effort to develop a custom ASIC in cooperation with ASIC manufacture. • Work resulted in patent #4,922,169.
