Application Developer
I participated heavily in the implementation of a new event-driven, distributed application running on Azure. We built ASP.NET MVC pages and Web Api Odata services and deployed them to Azure Cloud Services with TFS continuous integration builds. These services integrated with a CQRS-style back-end over Azure Service Bus using the NserviceBus abstraction library and tools. Our storage requirements were met two ways: event sourcing atop Azure Table Storage and Azure SQL databases. Finally, we used Azure Redis Caches for both response caching and SignalR back planes, thus facilitating real-time events to clients. Over the course of this project, I learned several hard lessons about good and bad distributed application design and the benefits and limitations of cloud hosting on Azure. I will bring them to future projects demanding high performance and scalability in the cloud to save you the expense of learning them for yourself. Along the way, I also contributed to the NserviceBus open source project after identifying and fixing a particularly tricky bug.
Application Developer
I worked with one other developer and a Product Owner to evolve a legacy application for the state of Ohio to meet emerging demands after a prior team’s failure to complete the task. I heavily contributed to incrementally refactoring the application. We delivered new features, fixed and improved broken functionality, optimized critical data throughput, and migrated away from legacy designs toward modern patterns. All of this was achieved without compromising availability and while meeting deadlines for the client’s annual business cycle.
Web Developer
I worked on HealthSpring’s provider and broker portals. They used service-oriented architectures with both web forms and MVC 4 utilizing WCF on the back end. I contributed extensively to feature development and performance optimization on the provider product and was solely responsible for developing the broker product. This included SQL query and index optimization, schema design, and threading of multi-database searches to remediate timeouts and improve response times. I also used jQuery and ASP.NET Ajax to improve the user experience on the front end.
Software Engineer Ii
Primary responsibilities included leading and supporting the development of B2B integrations with client and vendor systems. These utilized several technologies including Windows services (managed) and web services (ASMX and WCF), ASP.NET web forms applications, XML, XPath, XSLT, MEF, Enterprise Library, classic ASP, MSMQ, and others. As one of the largest background screening companies in the world, we integrated with client processes in many different ways, including batch processing of custom flat file formats, XML web services using the industry standard HR-XML schema, and custom file formats uploaded directly by web application users. Within my first year at Kroll I was given independent lead over several projects. After that first year I was promoted from SE-I to SE-II.
