In addition to acquiring the anticipated background data about these high priority sites, this project resulted in the rediscovery of several amphibian species that were thought to be extinct, the discovery of a new species of tree frog, and the establishment of the first ex situ breeding program for Plectrohyla acanthodes—a critically endangered frog that has undergone massive declines in recent years. Went to the Indigirka River Delta, Siberia as a Field Assistant on a joint project by the U.S. and Russia to discover factors behind the decline of spectacled eider populations. Fieldwork included capturing eiders, collecting blood samples for DNA analysis, and assisting in the implantation of satellite transmitters. Other duties included nest searching and monitoring, and habitat assessment based on vegetation characteristics.
