About John Cable

I’ve been watching the evolution of software up close since high school, playing Gato submarine command strategy on my early IBM PC XT and exploring the cool GUI on my friend’s Mac SE30 (dual floppy drives!) I’ve been with Microsoft for over 25 years, largely evolving the Window platform. I’ve held roles across test and quality control, software development and program management. I’ve worked on deep system components like User32, a bleeding-edge graphics platform for developers called Windows Presentation Foundation, and the Windows Shell. I helped develop the Windows Insider Program, the associated flighting mechanisms, and the Feedback Hub application. More recently I worked with enterprise customers on Windows security, and now work to keep all our customers up-to-date on Windows. Technology transforms quickly. The only way you can stay ahead is to match or exceed that pace. I do this by being laser focused on our customers – listening to what moves and motivates them, and to what they have to say. I believe we must deeply understand our customers to meet their growing and changing needs. This applies to designing products and services customers love. It applies to managing large engineering organizations. Today as Vice President of Product Management for the Windows Servicing and Delivery team that manages Windows updates, I work to help our engineers bring that philosophy of customer obsession into everything we deliver.
