Directed the Compliance Engineering team that defined the applicable product safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements for all Motorola Mobility devices (sophisticated multi-band and multi-mode portable phones, tablets, and accessories) and coordinated their satisfaction. Sole Subject Matter Expert (SME) for North American regulatory affairs, handling all Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Industry Canada (IC) handset certifications. Worked extensively with in-house and retained legal counsel, Telecommunications Industry Association’s (TIA) Technical Regulatory Policy Committee (TRPC), and FCC Office of Engineering and Technology to influence rule-making advances that facilitated the development of new, innovative mobile products and technologies.• Eliminated product safety concerns, totally averting lawsuits. No instances of regulatory sanctions related to device approvals.• Secured FCC relaxation of Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB) Exclusion List rules for devices employing simultaneous transmitters and power management techniques for RF Exposure compliance, which ultimately led to new FCC policies for the entire industry and cut approval time by more than half.• In concert with TIA’s TCRP, attained FCC rulemaking to allow electronic labeling for key regulatory markings, reducing physical label size and improving configuration management.• Managed the Hearing Aid Compliance (HAC) status of the entire Motorola Mobility device portfolio to comply with FCC rules, and avert enforcement actions.• Secured and managed blanket Experimental Licenses, providing maximum flexibility for product development and user trials. • Supported regulatory device filings in Latin America, Europe, and Asia, resulting in timely approvals.• Co-led project team to develop and deliver a workflow management tool for product safety and compliance planning and execution, significantly improving the organization’s effectiveness.
