I am a fourth-generation attorney with four decades experience in litigating commercial and business disputes , directors and officers liability , fraud and business torts , construction, real estate and personal injury cases. I have substantial trial appellate court experience including arguing and winning a unanimous decision in the California Supreme Court, Sweetwater v Gilbane. Several of my cases which have been reported on by different news outlets. They include a bid rigging governmental corruption case on an $80 million contract involving a State agency, The successful prosecution of a Government Code 1090 case resulting in the return of $ 8 million dollars to a local school district and lad use use trial regarding a private property owner’s access to a public facility which after a phase 1 trial, the owner obtained a multi-million dollar settlement. .Others include a land use matter for a property owner involving removal of above ground power lines on San Diego's southern bay front, and a successful protest to a $ 20 million dollar contract award granted by the California Department Of General Services.I have successfully argued cases in California Supreme Court, the Federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal and the State Appellate Courts. They include a California Supreme Court case decided by an unanimous 7-0 decision. In Casey v. Overhead Door, I prevailed in a published opinion in a construction defect case cited favorably by the California Supreme Court in resolving the economic loss doctrine in California. I also represented in the trial and appellate courts a party in an election contest involving a city council race decided by two votes.I have a history of public service. I served 6 years on the Chula Vista City Council and on the Chula Vista Planning Commission. I am on the executive Committee for the South County Economic Development Council and incoming Chair. For 13 years I served on the Board the California Center for Sustainable Energy and 10 years on the Sharp Chula Hospital Board. I was selected to University of San Diego’s Center for Public Interest Law Wall of Fame and in 2019 received UCAN's Public Interest Attorney Award. I am a fourth generation attorney, where my father, grandfather, and great grandfather were respected members of Buffalo, NY’s legal community.
