Volunteer Staff
CurrentI am a volunteer at The Royal Observatory, Greenwich and conduct talks and tours of the Observatory a few days per month. It is an absolute pleasure to tell the amazing stories of the Prime Meridian, the global significance of Greenwich, the early astronomy that happened there and especially the groundbreaking work to help determine longitude at sea. The history behind the problem of finding your longitude at sea has always fascinated me since going to sea as a Navigating Officer cadet at the age of 16, and eventually becoming a Captain. It is an honour to tell visitors the story of my hero John Harrison and his iconic clocks that solved the problem. Those clocks can be seen at The Observatory today. Not replicas but the original clocks from over 300 years ago. They are still wound every day and keep accurate time!!!!
