Tuskegee University offers 2 Aviation Science Programs to local and national high school students to interest them in Aviation/Aerospace Career. Programs Descriptions: 1. Mentoring Introduction to Aviation Science (MITAS) is a one-week summer program, offered in collaboration with the Tuskegee Airmen Museum, designed to introduce high school rising seniors and juniors to various aspects of Aviation Science. The main goal of this program is to expose Students to various aviation/aerospace related activities and will be mentored by faculty, graduate students from Tuskegee University and staff from the Tuskegee Airmen Museum. Aviation experts, Aircraft and Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) pilots as well as guest speakers will also interact with the students during their one-week residency summer program. The curriculum includes topics in aviation history, physics of flight, powering of aircraft, airframe structure and propulsion. Hands-on modules integrated in the curriculum include dissection of engines, flight simulation, computer aided design of simple aircraft parts, fabrication of UAS, and airplane wings using 3D printing, assembling, and testing of model airplane, satellites and rockets. 2. Aviation Career Exploration (ACE). Tuskegee University runs a one-day Aviation Careers Exploration (ACE) Camp. The ACE program recruits students for a one-day ACE program from local area high schools. Physics and science teachers from the schools will also be invited to accompany students and take part in the activities. The program will be offered several times a semester on Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm. These students will be exposed to various aviation/aerospace related activities and will be mentored by faculty and students from Tuskegee University and local aviation experts. Invited aviation professionals will be invited to interact with students during their camp experience at Tuskegee University and Moton Field.
