2024 will be another year of change and transformation. I reached my weight target last year, losing 82 pounds in 18 months. The health and wellbring improvements have felt wonderful. There are several other things that I either don't need or want to do so shed. I started to practice Qigong in 2022 and have done it every day since. I will always be learning as a practitioner and the benefits of its gentle breathing and movement has become a vital part of my daily routine. I have demonstrated what I do with friends who have also become prattitioners.Following the publication of my two novels there is another germinating in my heart and mind. I love writing and am sure creative writing will continue to be a feature in my life. There are other promptings in my soul about supporting people in various ways though I'm not yet sure exactly what this will entail. My journey of discovery about what it means to be and live as a multi-dimensional human being on this wonderful, yet terribly abused, planet continues to deepen. Life take on hues of colour, love and joy and surprises me constantly.

I worked with a team of four specialist nurses. Our purpose wass to improve the end of life care services that patients receive at our hospitals and to enable them to live their final days and weeks in a place they choose to be. This could be at home, in a care/nursing home, in a hospice or somewhere else. This was a big challenge and involved developing communication across all disciplines within the hospital and medical and social agencies in the community. We aimed to achieve this by training as many staff as possible in all wards. It is not easy for staff working in the NHS to accept that sometimes we have to acknowledge that a person is dying and allow them to have a natural death. This means supporting patients themselves to come to terms with the fact they are dying and also their relatives, carers and friends who may expect the NHS to "fix everything" when the reality is that providing invasive treatments is often not in the patient's best interests. This required a cultural change and it was a privilege to be out and about on the wards supporting the team and ward staff.

I loved this job. The charity was set up by Diana and Paul Lamplugh in 1986. Their daughter Suzy, a young estate agent working in south London, disappeared and was presumed murdered. She was showing a client a property and was never heard of again. It was devastating for her parents and they established the Trust to educate and inform the public. My role was to develop relationships with clients and help them decide which of our consultancy and training services could help then best. This involved building partnerships with organisations where we can add value to each other, speaking at events about personal safety and giving formal presentations to win training contracts. The Trust's vision is a society in which people are able to reduce their risk of experiencing violence and aggression. Its mission is to campaign, educate and support people to help reduce the risk of violence and aggression for everyone.
Common Purpose is an amazing concept. It takes leaders from all sectors and takes them on a journey into leadership that many of them have never seen before. It is fascinating, challenging and probably the best way to see the world - through through other leaders' eyes.I designed and delivered these programmes in Stoke-on-Trent, Derby and London. Seeing 32 leasers look a little uncomfortable in a prison, a charity manager witness a trader make £10K in 30 seconds and a civil servant in a Hindu temple during a Diwali festival... gave me a great sense of satisfaction.Learning outside your comfort zone somehow created new neural pathways - deepening the educational experience not just in the mind but the emotions. I am still moved at the lasting impacts the experiences I helped to create and facilitate had on people.
Established a multi-agency community safety partnership in Plymouth. Reduced burglary, youth crime and domestic violence offences.

I worked with Una Padel (who sadly died several years ago) and Rose Twidale on a project funded by the Health Education Authority to produce a model of training prison officers about HIV, AIDS and drugs. We piloted this innovative approach in several prisons and wrote the resource book below so that others could apply it in other prisons in the UK.There are still many myths about HIV - particularly amongst young people and even though there are many drugs that can help to control the opportunistic infections people get and boost peoples' immune systems it is as important as ever that people in prison have the necessary factual information they need and that it is presented in a relevant and non-discriminatory way.
