The DOD HFE TAG was chartered by the Office of the Secretary of Defense with MOU membership of NASA and the FAA 35 years ago. More recently the DHS has become a member agency. It provides am professional exchange venue for federally employed Human Factors Engineers and related behavioral scientists, engineers and program managers on matters related to human performance, human systems integration, related to systems design, testing and acquisition.

SSH has about 3000 Doctors, Nurses and other healthcare and medical training professionals form medical schools, hospitals and research organizations world wide. Its annual conference is the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare. Its Journal is Simulation in Healthcare. Membership is $160/ year ($60 for retired or student meambers).

I am currently occupied full time working to track and understand leading edge research related to developing and /or using all forms of modeling and simulation to improve "the human condition" primarily in the healthcare domain. My primary method is to develop personal relationship with professionals across the US and in many other parts of the world for the purpose of connecting those with shared interest wherever they may be. I have been in over 100 healthcare related modeling and simulation facilities and many of the countries leading medical/healthcare academic and research institutions and have attended both healthcare and non healthcare professional conferences and frequently organized conference panels to being experts from diverse disciplines with shared but often unrecognized interests and problems to solve.

Half Time (contract) Advisor to the director of the DHS S&T Modeling & Simulation "Engine" which provides technical assistance to all DHS Components and, as Liaison between DHS and other components of the Federal Government as well as academic and professional societies, associations, and industry M&S stakeholders. Although tasking may apply to any type of M&S acquisition or application, my primary focus is related to M&S in Medical/Healthcare, BioScience, Human Factors, and Human Systems Integration. Work includes identifying and facilitating opportunities for inter federal agency collaboration to address common requirements or gaps and to reduce duplication, overlaps, and fragmentation on federal agency investments in M&S application or M&S technology R&D. US Dept of Homeland Security, Office of Science and Technology HQ (1/2 FTE CTR Via Regal Decission Systems Inc) I'm pleased to announce that I was recruited to support DHS S&T efforts as a liason to actively engage with all other Federal Government Departments and Agencies to explore opportunities for collaboration and coordination of existing, emerging, and future modeling and simulation tools and research to serve common interests. I will be working primarily from home or on the road for face-to-face discussion with government M&S stakeholders and academics engaged in using or doing research for or with modeling and simulation. The 1/2 time employment allows ample, although somewhat reduced, time for maintaining my parallel and in some case overlapping voluntary work/projects personally or prifessionally supporting many of the colleagues and organizations which have occupied my time since retiring 6 years ago.

Was one of the first 6 inaugural staff members for one of the first facilities in the US designed from the ground up to prepare mentally handicapped residents of existing state institutions for deinstutionalized community living and employment. Designed programs, hired and trained ~ 150 paraprofessional residence staff-teachers. Developed a complete state of the art professionally staffed video productions facility which produced training materials that were eventually use statewide and nationally. Supervised a staff training staff and conducted classes to retool institutional care aides for continuous teaching of life skills for community living. Planned and conducted extensive applied research in the application of behaviorally focused training methods. Developed extensive data collection procedures and processes to monitor progress of residents on highly structures individualized training paths to deinstitutionalization. Conceived and developed computer models of human behavior modification and developed early innovative computer based simulation games for teacher training. Managed the submission and execution of numerous federal grants for R&D related to special education. Received two year education leave grant to attend Indiana University in PhD programs for both Instructional Systems Technology and in Special Education Research and Evaluation.
