As CEO of the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, I lead a passionate staff in pursuit of our mission to preserve, protect, and restore the waters of the Catawba-Wateree River basin for all through education, advocacy, and engagement.Under the guidance of a diverse Board of Directors, we work daily to ensure plentiful, clean, affordable water for generations to come. With over 2.5 million people getting their water from the Catawba River and her lakes, our impact on our community and region are tremendous. The people of Charlotte, NC and the surrounding 26 counties along the basin benefit from our efforts to monitor the health of the river and lakes, advocate for the protection of those waters, and educating our fellow citizens on how they can conserve, protect, and preserve the water for the next generation. Personally, this position allows me to work daily in an intersection of my personal passion for the outdoors and my professional skills in leadership and fund development. As Executive Director of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, I lead a passionate staff of horticulturists, botanists, fundraisers, marketers, and guest services professionals who execute our mission to inspire a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences.Our garden sits in the center of a ~380 acre preserved property in Belmont, NC, one of the fastest growing parts of the Charlotte, NC region. The Garden is an oasis for residents and visitors alike seeking connection with nature and an opportunity to learn and grow in their knowledge and understanding of our natural world. I have the pleasure of leading the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden alongside my duties as Executive Director of Catawba Riverkeeper. Both the Garden and Catawba Riverkeeper share a deep-rooted passion for the world around us - from clean water to protecting our lands around it and engaging people with that beauty to drive a deeper commitment to conservation and preservation of our natural resources. In this Shared Leadership Role, I am guiding both organizations through the development of a model that will allow both organizations to grow and thrive through collaboration and shared resources.

Co-founder and Director of the Jay Bilas Skills Camp, a privately owned basketball camp for high school boys who have been identified as college basketball prospects at the Mid-major and Low-major Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3 levels. In this role, I manage ongoing planning and administration of the camp as well as the programming and day-to-day operations of the camp.Established in 2013 by Jay Bilas and John Searby, the Jay Bilas Skills Camp sprung from a vision to meet a need that the founders saw in the competitive basketball landscape for high school boys. While coaching Jay's son, Anthony, for several years together in AAU Basketball, John and Jay felt that the young men they were coaching and coaching against were lacking a place outside of their high school teams where they could get concentrated basketball skill teaching that would help them improve their game.Both Jay and John desired to establish a camp that followed the format of the camps they grew up with as they were preparing for their collegiate playing and coaching careers - skill focused, team focused, residential, and disciplined. This invitation only camp has a maximum capacity of 100 campers to ensure the individualized instruction and hands on teaching by Jay, John, and the other camp coaches.

As Sales Manager of the Charlotte, NC office of Adams Outdoor Advertising, I led a team of sales professionals, creative artists, and out of home advertising professionals in developing out of home advertising and online advertising campaigns for companies in the Charlotte region and across the Southeastern United States. Adams Outdoor Advertising is the fourth largest billboard company in America, operating in 27 markets across the United States. They provide static and digital billboards, digital kiosks, transit, and online advertising for clients of all shapes and sizes.

WORKflow Peoria provided a collaborative, creative community in which to work, play, and share. Well beyond a coffee pot, a copier, high speed internet, a business address, and all of the other mundane items of a typical office, WORKflow Peoria provided creative businesses and freelancers an opportunity to come together to achieve greater productivity. John and Jessi Searby founded WORKflow Peoria in the fall of 2009, as John shifted jobs from Bradley University to a 'work from home' job with XOS Digital. WORKflow Peoria was John's first foray into the entrepreneurial world and it taught him a lot of lessons. WORKflow Peoria was closed after John accepted a transfer with Adams Outdoor Advertising to Charlotte, North Carolina in December 2011. Nevertheless, John still strives for an entrepreneurial spirit and seeks to help creatives and freelancers strive in a new economy.

While at XOS Digital, John served as Regional Sales Manager within the Integrated Solutions Group at XOS Digital - the leader in technology solutions for sports.John served collegiate and professional sports clients in developing technology solutions to be integrated into new and renovation construction projects.

As the Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs, John was responsible for the following:• Lead and Coordinate the Efforts of 3 primary External Affairs components: Corporate Partnerships, Fundraising, and Marketing.• Manage Relationship Development between Athletic Department and Media Partners (television, radio, and internet).• Directly coordinate marketing efforts for men’s basketball and supervise all Athletics Marketing Staff Members, Cheer Squad, Dance Team, and Pep Band.

As the Director of Basketball Operations, John was responsible for the following:• Direct operations of Intercollegiate Men’s Basketball program at Auburn University with operating budget of $1.8 million.• Liaison to all support staff of the athletic department including game management, marketing, development, media relations, sports medicine, academics, athletic equipment, and facilities.• Lead men’s basketball support staff.• Serve as coordinator of all alumni and community relations groups.• Assist with identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of basketball-specific donors at Auburn University.

John served as Athletic Director and Head Men's Basketball Coach for Lincoln Christian University (formerly Lincoln Christian College), a Private, Christian College in Lincoln, IL. In this capacity John led the operations of 10 intercollegiate sports and led the college through the initial stages of transition into NCAA Division III membership and conference membership.John also coached the Men's Basketball team to an overall record of 21-17 and a 4th Place finish in the NCCAA National Tournament. Coached the NCCAA National Player of the Year, Brian Dunaway.

During his time at Widefield, John taught multiple English courses, a multimedia production course, and served as Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach and Head Freshman Boy's Basketball Coach.

John served as the Administrative Assistant Coach for the Tennessee Tech Men's Basketball team for two seasons while completing a Master's Degree in English. As a member of the Golden Eagles' coaching staff, John was a part of two Ohio Valley Conference Championships and a NIT Final Eight team under the leadership of Head Coach Jeff Lebo.

John served one season as an Assistant Basketball Coach for Head Coach, Rick Scruggs. During this time, helped guide Gardner-Webb to the NCAA Division II National Tournament in the school's final year in Division II.Coaching responsibilities included recruiting, scouting, on court instruction, academic oversight, and administrative management of the program.
