As the O&G industry works its way through another cycle of uncertainty we (Karen and I) decided it was time to 'mix things up a bit' (as millers often do!) and follow the fork in the road less travelled. Learning a new industry and new operations in a new environment is stimulating and fun. Those were exactly the things I loved about the exploration business and hope those fun times return. In the meantime, I will be 'grinding' away at a new small business venture. Please visit us in the Shenandoah Valley when on the US East Coast. It's beautiful.

Resource Exploration Services provides independent advice (specializing in International Operations, International Business Development as well as implementation of a Health, Safety, Security systems) in to the Natural Resource Industry (inc. Oil & Gas, Alternative Energy and Mining Industries). This confidential advice is provided to Public or Private Companies which are looking to reduce their operational risk or their investment risk, for a particular country or project.

ARKeX's vision was to provide international Natural Resource Companies with the highest resolution gravity data and deliver the data in a form which could be easily integrated with explorers other data sets. We did this by acquiring airborne or marine geophysical data, processing the data (in house or in the field) and interpreting/integrating the data with our staff of expert geologists and geophysicists. We achieved our successful results while focusing on industry established guidelines for managing QHSE while working in a responsible manner with local communitites in remote locations. The vision for deploying the FTG technology in a multiclient business model required new investment. We raised additional funding from both private equity and venture capital investors which required regular presentations and road shows for investment committees and industry organisations. In addition, ARKeX continued to invest in R&D efforts focused on the building of the next generation Gravity Gradiometer. We also focused on developments and improvements to the next generation software tools necessary to extract the most meaningful information from the Data we delivered.

COO was a new position at ARKeX and the operations team and I built the international operations capability at ARKeX from the ground up. This included negotiating aviation contracts, logistics agreements and implementation of a fully integrated QHSE management system. In addition, while building the operations and delivery teams to deliver 3-4 crews worth of data, the sales and business development teams were developed to deliver a pipeline of opportunities for this new technology.

I joined the Asker/Oslo Engineering development group having been one of the Operations Managers receiving the first Q Marine streamer systems. That first system had significant teething problems and our group remit was to deliver and deploy Q marine systems on to all the vessels and reduce the technical downtime associated with the new system. The support team; which included the entire technical support group, operations support group and marine engineering upgrade group (75 people) achieved 20% improvement on fleet technical downtime year on year.
