In June, 2017, the US team I had managed since 2008 was greatly reduced. My test functional responsibilities did not substantially change, but the volume of work was reduced to reflect the loss of most US and all China resources. My scope increased to include other missions. Became functional lead for a team of 9 direct report test engineers and 7 lab operations engineers in the US as well as 10 offshore test engineers in India and directly managed the teams that test Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL and SLES) on Power and OpenPOWER systems running the KVM, PowerVM or PowerNV (bare metal) virtualization layers as well as the Elastic Storage Server (ESS) Power Solution. With an IBM Power strategy shift in 2020, test focus shifted to Enterprise Linux only (RHEL and SLES on PowerVM) and ESS moved to the Storage brand, so currently have 5 direct report test engineers plus a 9 person lab operations team. Own and manage most of the IBM Systems Labs in Austin as well as a Custom Test Partnership in Poughkeepsie, NY, that provides direct test and technical support for a major Power customer.• Operations lead for full SW System Test team which is 17 engineers in the US plus 60 in India and 4 in Mexico.• Budget management for a portion of the Systems Assurance budget, which has ranged between $6 million and $16 million.

Selected to spearhead process improvement and global expansion within the Global Firmware Development (GFW) team. Managed a budget reaching $5.5 million at its peak. Created and staffed new core teams and brought together disparate engineering teams to transform firmware development from a group of disconnected programming teams into a large-scale software development department. Organizational growth and procedural changes in GFW resulted in increased quality, stability and timeliness of the code deliverables. • Accomplished a complete process and team re-engineering project within 2 years while simultaneously completing 2 yearly major releases and several smaller releases. • Realized a substantial cost savings in development through the transition of IBM India product development and service to an offshore model in Bangalore, India.
