I research hotel projects in the U.S. construction pipeline for an online construction database publication. This involves tracking current construction progress as well as reporting on hotel openings and changes in ownership and management, as well as staying informed on hotel industry trends on both the nationwide and numerous local markets.

Interviewed musicians and artists in Chicago's LGBTQ community, as well as conducted album reviews and covered shows, panels and similar community events.

Researched indie unsigned artists and wrote 250-450 word reviews of their most recent work. The genres covered included rock, punk, folk and Americana, singer/songwriter, dance and EDM.

I collaborated with the authors of accepted short-story and novel manuscripts to bring the material to the best publishable quality, in line with Tortoise's in-house style. We worked on plot, character development and thematic content, as well as working on sentence-level edits to create consistence in image, motif and syntax.

I worked with guest readers to Columbia Creative Writing Reading Series, scheduling visits, reserving hotel rooms, placing book orders, gathering readers' documents (contracts, releases), and maintaining a direct line of communication between guests and Columbia faculty.

I worked with undergraduate fiction students in the Creative Writing Department in order to strengthen their work over the course of a semester. We did this through intensive critical study of published fiction (novels and short stories), as well as with writing exercises designed to train students in generating new story ideas. We revised and edited numerous drafts of their work, for both short stories and novels.

I taught 4 freshman-level English Composition courses consisting of 18 students for 15-week semesters. Students worked on two-to-three drafts of 12-page research papers, a process I guided them through via intensive study of the stages of essay writing, from outlining and writing the first draft, to revising and rewriting for the second and third drafts. I assisted visitors to the Creative Writing office, providing department-related information and announcements, delivering mail and paperwork, performing large print jobs for students and faculty (including the occasional small repair of the copying machine), answering the phones, and passing out posters and flier for department events around campus.

I selected books for student reviews, then solicited and edited reviews. Wrote blog posts for the website (https://blogs.colum.edu/lab-review/) and maintained the website using Wordpress. For our literary magazine, The Lab Review, I read and helped select fiction, nonfiction and poetry submissions, and worked one-on-one with selected authors to edit their pieces in order to fit into the magazine. In the Fall 2016 semester, I helped the office transition into a new management and employees.
