In all industries, having a strong safety culture is important to get everyone home safe every day. By fostering excellence in safety, you will get excellence in business back. To accomplish this, safety specialists need to encourage all workers and contractors to make sure that they are working with capacity in their system. Capacity is having systems that can absorb mistakes without catastrophic outcomes. As a safety specialist with a Journeyman Electrician background, I have a unique understanding of the work that is being performed. Utilizing my background has given me the opportunity to see the work through the eyes of the worker performing the task. I can suggest an alternative way of completing a task that would be safer with the same outcome. Having this unique perspective allows me to have a positive approach to the workers. A strong positive approach to safety with the work crews is necessary to create a strong safety culture.Prior to working in the construction industry, I held management roles in the hospitality industry. Skills that were acquired in these roles were working with union agreements, departmental budgeting, various reporting duties, and inventory management. It was common in these roles to have to manage Worker Compensation Cases for injured workers. In the current role of Safety Advisor, the duties that I am responsible for are managing crew training, incident investigation and reporting, developing corrective actions, and reviewing safety policies and procedures with the work crew.I am currently enrolled at the University of New Brunswick in the Occupational Health and Safety certificate program. I am actively completing these courses to achieve the designation of Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) with the Board of Canadian Professional Safety Professionals. This goal will allow me to expand my knowledge base and become a better asset to the company I am working for.

Work scope entails: insulation of MCC switch gear, insulation of various types of heat trace, termination of various devices and junction boxes, termination of high voltage transformer and motors, PLC wiring and verification, quality field inspector. I have completed live electrical work on 12 VDC to 600 VAC.

As a Lead Hand (acting electrical Forman) on the RMGTL project located in Strathmore AB, I was in charge of the design of the power distribution and heat trace controller installation. This large tasks required me to coordinate with all other trades on site.
