Upon our arrival, accepted appointment to Commander of Task Force 83, including directing operations for over 300 firefighters by providing assistance and/or support to hurricane victims in New Orleans.-Liaison to the National Guard and numerous law enforcement agencies to assist in handling security issues, including follow up on 10,000 delayed 9-1-1 call responses after Hurricane Katrina.-Received commendations from Omaha Fire Department, including Medal of Courage; State and National firefighting organizations; and the Jimmy Wilson Foundation Commendation for underwriting and raising over $500,000 for New York City police and firefighters after 9/11 terrorist attacks.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Commander of Task Force 83, in charge of directing operations for over 300 firefighters by providing a variety of services, assistance and support to hurricane victims in New Orleans-Liaison with National Guard and numerous law enforcement agencies on security issues, including tactical EMS when following up on 10,000 delayed 9-1-1 emergency call responses due to the failure of levees and flood walls-Staff fire stations (outside the city limits of New Orleans) to provide emergency fire & EMS services

-In 1995, as Fire Chief, transitioned our volunteer department into a combined department implementing career firefighters and paramedics. This reduced our response times, to 911 calls, by arriving in 3 minutes or less and improved our ISO rating. -Creating this career firefighter/paramedic department ignited Papillion’s growth, including Werner Park, Shadow Lake Town Center, Cabela’s and The Shoppes at Market Pointe.-After 9/11/2001, negotiated and signed the contract to create the first Fire & EMS Department in the City of Papillion. This Agreement removed the private corporation (PVFD, Inc.) who was previously contracted, by the City of Papillion, to provide emergency services prior to 2002.

-Appointed by the Governor to become LEPC Chairperson for Sarpy County. While serving, created a countywide preplan to protect our communities in the event of a tornado, flood, terrorist attack and/or other type of emergency incidentIn addition, during this time, worked with Sheriff Pat Thomas to consolidate the Sarpy County and Bellevue Police Department's Dispatch Centers to become Sarpy County Consolidated Communications. A new dispatch center was constructed at the Sarpy County Courthouse and a new 800 MHz trunked radio system was installedFurther, worked with all Sarpy County law enforcement agencies and fire departments to pass the 800 MHz radio communication bond issue and served as the first chair of the newly formed 800 MHz Advisory Board
