Starting off in development, I quickly got up to speed with agile web development using Ruby-on-Rails by focusing on essential maintenance work for Envato Market, an Alexa top-100 site. In this role, during a time of rapid growth for the company, I took care of welcoming new developers of all levels and introducing them to how we go about development on a majestic monolith, setting them up for future successes in the organisation. Onboarding new team members became easier over time as I documented our processes and automated the setup of local development environments.From there I took on a site-reliability role and as the self-appointed "Chief Sleep Officer", set about reducing the amount of call out hours from over forty per week down to a point where out-of-hours call-outs are a rarity.
