Hello!My name is John Awad and I am a Board-Certified Internal Medicine physician who has been in practice for over 7 years. I have worked in a variety of settings including administration, education, inpatient hospitalist work, outpatient PCP care, and many more over the course of my time as an Internist. I have significant exposure to various IT platforms, integrated health systems, healthcare models, and much more. Furthermore, I have a variety of clinical experiences including my own small group practice, inpatient hospitalist work, emergency room and urgent care work, free clinics, and academic institutional work. Currently I work at the Long Beach VA as an academic hospitalist affiliated with both Charles Drew University and University of California Irvine. I teach and mentor both medical students and residents alike. I will be the site director for Charles Drew University College of Medicine students during their Internal Medicine rotations at the VA starting in 2025. My academic affiliations thus far encompass UCI and Charles Drew University, with whom I am proud to work alongside.Additionally, I work in a small group practice in the Long Beach Area known as St. John Medical Group Inc, where I serve as a PCP to a general local population. This practice cares for Medicare , Medi-Cal , PPO, HMO, and uninsured patients, allowing me to have broad insights to daily clinical practice, health screening guidelines, health plans and payers, and much of the day-to-day business practices as it relates to a successful medical practice.Prior to this, I served as an Internal Medicine resident physician and chief resident physician at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. Here I specialized in medical academia, helped create a repository of important medical topics of reference for medical students and residents, and served on the residency curriculum and residency outreach/fellowship committees simultaneously. I also worked on the clinical competence committee assessing residents' medical competence as they advanced through training. Additionally during training I developed a deep interest in medical advocacy for the underserved, serving as a mentor in local pipeline programs and facilitating discussions involving the medical field as it relates to those from underserved and disadvantaged backgrounds.I am eager to continue working in the areas of medical education, medical innovation and medical advocacy alongside my clinical work.
