I am passionate about suicide prevention, smashing the stigma around mental illness and the amplification of carer voice. Zoe Hannam and I set up the voluntary Mental Health Recognition Project in May 2022 producing resource books Stay and Alliance. These quickly sold out with proceeds to Kingston Carers' Network and award winning charity Suicide Crisis and are also being used in therapeutic settings inside and outside the NHS. Zoe and I have met many dedicated mental health professionals doing excellent work but we noticed some were working in silos. We launched a pilot networking event Bridging the Gap on 18 November 2022 for senior mental health professionals, sponsored by Spaces, Sutton Point. The aim was to connect those who share our values, trust, transparency and appetite for change with a view to smashing the silos as well as the stigma. More events - Bridging the Neuro-Gap and Bridging the Meno-Gap are planned. I am involved in a number of paid and unpaid workstreams inside and outside the NHS, most focus on suicide prevention.
