I currently serve as the 2024 Council Chair for the Prince George’s County Council, elected unanimously by my colleagues on December 5, 2023. I was elected to my first four-year term on the Prince George's County Council in November 2018, representing Council District 5, and reelected to my second four-year term in November 2022. My priorities have been and are children and their families, the fight for environmental justice, and making sure the residents of Prince George's County and District 5 receive speedy, effective, and courteous services from the County Government. Governor Wes Moore appointed me to the Maryland Zero Emission Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Council (ZEEVIC) in 2023. I chair the region’s Council of Governments' Climate, Energy, and Environment Policy Committee (CEECP) and serve as Vice Chair for the Planning, Economic Housing, and Development Committee for the Prince George's County Council. I previously served in Annapolis as a Delegate representing District 47 in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2007 to 2015. My colleagues in Annapolis elected me to serve as Chair of the Prince George's County House Delegation from 2012 to 2014. I am a former broadcast journalist with a master's degree in journalism from the University of Maryland. I am also a co-founder of Mocha Moms, Inc., a support group for mothers of color, which I helped grow into a national organization.
