The Intention Gathering
Vancouver, Canada Area
Vancouver is badly lacking in community and easy, heartfelt social connections. The first time I joined the Intention Gathering I recognized it as something special and started getting involved. In my opinion it's the solution to the problem of Vancouver being a "lonely city."There's an unmet human need for community in my city and most people think of that as an impossible problem. Whether or not a problem seems impossible is no reason not to try. This is a co-created, non-hierarchical event where the reward is thanks and human connection, and it's absolutely worth the work. Intention has been happening since New Year's Eve 1999/2000. It happened before I got here, and it'll keep happening after I'm gone.During my time with Intention so far I've mediated disputes, resolved conflicts, acted as the treasurer and done long-term financial planning, co-created our current knowledge management structure / planning documents, planned and carried out the transportation and logistics plans for a dozen festivals and events, led public speaking at the gatherings, facilitated many workshops and worked extensively with the "consent culture" pod on ensuring that our space is as safe for participants as humanly possible.Intention regularly provides me with greater challenges and greater lessons than any other organization I've ever been part of, and I've grown more as a person and as a professional through my involvement here than I can say.
