About Jonathan Berger

As the president and founder of a research, development and technology licensing company I have had a wide range of responsibilities. For nearly ten years, I have been leading a team innovative engineers and scientists who are pushing the boundaries of lightweight and high-performance materials.Our flagship design, Isomax™, is a patented material geometry that achieves the theoretical upper limits for isotropic elasticity and strain energy storage, as featured in Nature magazine. We want to replace conventional foams, and all their manufacturing waste, and all their trash after they break down, with ultra efficient architected foams. Our designs are more resilient, lighter, use less material to make and produce almost no waste during manufacturing.We have partnered with NASA, Lockheed Martin, and other prestigious organizations to explore and develop applications for ultra-light mechanical metamaterials in aerospace, defense, automotive, and biomedical industries. My core competencies include research and development, experimental design and execution, CAD, FEM, and engineering design.     Our team took compositions of simulated lunar regolith (moon dust) and used small amounts of earth derived material, using high powered microwave casting, to create zero and extremely low thermal expansion systems in the form of lightweight 2- and 3-D lattices under the DARPA Novel Orbital and Moon Manufacturing, Materials, and Mass-efficient Design (NOM4D) program. I performed the CAD discrete instantiations of ideal theoretically designed lattice geometries, FEM, and digital image correlation in experiments to measure the coefficient of thermal expansion of test specimens.
