Air Monitoring - Projects & Technology (AMPT) performs mobile, portable, and short-term air monitoring and sampling in support of various air monitoring projects. Our flagship platform is an Air Monitoring Van with the ability to measure speciated VOCs, size speciated UFP, PM 2.5, BC, NOx, CO, CH4, and CO2 in real-time. The section researches and develops tools, protocols, and procedures for testing and implementing air monitoring approaches to address a dynamic and growing list of uses cases, particularly at the community scale. AMPT is also responsible for oversight, maintenance, and development of regulatory and other data quality and data management systems.

My team and I worked on a number of projects. These include: Data systems, communications, and programming (C#) database applications and services. Oversight of the districts meteorology network. Data analysis for network-scale instrument performance, accuracy, and site-to-site correlation. Coordination of projects with external researchers. Testing and evaluation of new (cutting edge) instrumentation.

Investigated photo-reactivity of solutes located in different regions of ice; namely in liquid-like layers that occur at the ice surface, in liquid-like regions within the ice (e.g., liquid inclusions, triple junctions, or at grain boundaries) or isolated within the crystalline structure of the bulk ice.

GSR: Snow provides an extensive and dynamic reservoir for photochemical reactions that can alter the chemistry of the overlying atmosphere. In this work, we’ve developed a method to determine photo-formed singlet molecular oxygen on ice to assess its importance in the oxidation of pollutants on snow and ice. We have also developed a chemical method to probe physical properties of liquid-like regions that exist at the surfaces and grain boundaries of ice. This work was funded in part by an EPA STAR Graduate Research Fellowship and received honorable mention for an NSF research fellowship. During this time, I also served as a research mentor to three undergraduates and one high-school student.TA: For courses in Atmospheric Pollution (ATM 6) and Atmospheric Chemistry (ATM 160), I developed and delivered lectures on the global carbon cycle and delivered many other lectures as well, graded quizzes and exams, and provided assistance to students during office hours.
