I own BMAS LLC, a Madison, WI based company that offers design, programming, upgrades, and startup support for industrial automation. We pride ourselves in integrating seamlessly with our customers' teams and offering customized solutions that uniquely fit their needs.By training, I'm a mechanical engineer focused on control systems and programming. By experience, I'm a controls engineer (design, programming, troubleshooting). By necessity, I'm a manager, bookkeeper, entrepreneur, salesperson, writer, marketer. By passion, I'm an educator, tinker, and applied philosopher. My role is moving in the direction of engineering manager - still lots of engineering work, but trying to focus more on building my team, developing their skill and experience, and supporting them in all the challenges along the way. It's not always easy, but it's very rewarding, and it's my little way of giving industry what it needs and making the world a better place. My activities continue to include every step of the controls design process, from early concepting to final polish of the user interface. I'm well versed in designing industrial control systems, programming PLCs and HMIs, and powering on/debugging new custom equipment. I enjoy working with my customers every step of the way towards project success. My real passion is creating elegant systems that serve humanity. Sometimes that means bringing together different technologies to solve real-world problems in new and interesting ways, and sometimes it means pulling back the reins on technology to consider the human element. When I'm not at work, I enjoy engineering biological systems in my yard (gardening). I love studying and experimenting with perennial plants that form mutually beneficial relationships to increase food yields and decrease my necessary work in the long run.
