As an Environmental Operator, I am tasked with the successful operations of my pulp mill’s waste water treatment systems, including a fresh water filter plant. This includes three sewer systems, bio-aeration ponds, landfills, filter and screw press and chemical skids. I am also responsible for hazardous chemical deliveries, oil spill cleanup and prevention, safety lockouts for routine and emergency maintenance and various other daily, weekly and monthly tasks. My position requires me to be very flexible and often required the juggling of many different responsibilities on the fly. For the past ten years, I have been part of a wonderful culture of respect and excellence. I have been part of a great team that has been successful each year in the goal of full environment compliance of the mill. A few of my personal accomplishments include authoring our environmental data base and daily KPI report, training of two colleagues and identifying some operational problems, which when remedied ultimately saved the mill hundreds of thousands of dollars in chemical costs each year.
