I’m Jon, an experienced BMS engineer specialising in the Tridium and Trend platforms, with a background in refrigeration, renewable energy and energy optimisation.Starting off as a refrigeration apprentice, I fell into the renewable energy sector in 2014, at a time where renewable energy systems were mostly confined to domestic dwellings. As the industry grew in line with government support, the complexity of the systems being installed increased dramatically, and the need for sophisticated control of these systems became increasingly apparent. Using my background in refrigeration, I pushed further into the controls aspect of the job, and became proficient with the Tridium/Niagara platform. Using this skill set, I was able to provide software, graphics and on site expertise to deliver large scale renewable projects on high profile sites such as the V&A museum in Dundee and Old Oak Common rail depot in North London, amongst many others. Due to the nature of these installations, I was able to use my past experiences in synergy with my Tridium experience to provide tangible benefits to clients in terms of energy usage and CO2 output reduction, which gave me great pride, as I am most definitely an environmentalist at heart!As funding and interest in renewable energy systems hit a lull in the mid to late 10’s, I made the natural progression to the BMS industry. I moved on to delivering complete building management systems for a plethora of clients, carrying out extensive work for new build Bupa care homes, and numerous retrofit projects throughout the UK. I was exposed to Trend extensively during this time, and being given the opportunity to deliver projects using a new system was a fantastic learning opportunity.The next progression in my career was to put my skills to the test on bigger and more challenging projects. I successfully delivered the software, graphics and commissioning package for HMP Fosse Way, the new build super prison in Leicester. I then put my skill set to use in the modernisation and improvement of older building management systems for clients such as the Ministry Of Justice and Ministry Of Defence.I am currently offering my services on a freelance basis.I love what I do for a living, and having the joy of being constantly challenged to improve on past successes is something that I take great enjoyment in. An active brain means a happy life!
