About Jon Harper
PhD researcher currently awaiting Viva. I have extensive teaching experience and have taught on modules (as both seminar led and lecturing) including, Academic Practices 1 & 2, Modern Britain Since 1945, and Society and Community: An Introduction (Joint history and politics). I also have experience in teaching international students and have helped deliver the universities pre sessional English course running the conversation club and acting as student support. I have also recently started a role at The University of Salford teaching the Professional Development and Practices module for the School of Science, Engineering and Environment. My academic interests revolve around the retuning soldier and military studies. My thesis title is Bridging the Gap: The British Prisoner of War & The Civil Resettlement Units: 1945-1946. This explores how the resocialisation of returning prisoners of war was conceptualised and how this shaped a post war resettlement scheme in the Civil Resettlement Units. It also explores the community response towards the resocialisation of returning POWs and the relationship between these community’s and the Civil Resettlement Units.My previous dissertations have explored similar areas of my academic interest with my undergraduate dissertation analysing the British soldier’s morale in the Normandy campaign and my MA dissertation exploring Roman land reform and veteran settlement 181-59BC.
