Various tech lead roles in the Azure for Operators division of Microsoft, working on both the Azure Private 5G Core and Azure Operator 5G Core, applying networking expertise in a cloud native environment. This was a great opportunity to work with a wide range of different teams and using anarray of interesting technologies including Azure, Azure DevOps, Rust, Python, Kubernetes etc.

Tech lead for a team integrating the Metaswitch BGP and IS-IS stacks into the SONiC network operating system, focusing on architecture, design work and cross-team technical discussions.

2017 - 2021: Tech lead in the network protocols team, with a wide range of responsibilities - estimating new features and components, architecture/specification/designing/reviewing, providing education to teams of contractors in Romania. Areas of technology included IP routing, MPLS and Segment Routing, TI-LFA, Broadcom integration and SONiC integration.2012 - 2017: Tech lead/architect for Carrier Ethernet protocol development, creating specifications and designs for implementations of EVPN, LACP, STP, ERPS, Y.1731 OAM, E-LMI, VLAN Management. Innovative designs for distribution and high availability led to multiple patent applications. My designs for enhancements to the high availability framework and a simplified approach to management code saved many weeks of coding time.2001 - 2012: Developer working on IP routing and MPLS protocol software, including some time as a customer facing support engineer. Design, code, unit test for initial development and numerous enhancements across a wide range of components including implementations of BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, OSPFv3, BGP/MPLS VPN, RSVP and RIP protocols. During this time, as well as earning a reputation as a speedy coder and expert debugger, I wrote a VPN white paper (https://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/~varsha/allpapers/network-misc/vpntechwp.pdf), defined the architecture for the BGP/MPLS VPN product and wrote an IETF RFC (https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc6119.html).1996 - 2001: Developer working on ATM protocol software, including a couple of years as a customer facing support engineer. Technologies worked on include PNNI routing, UNI/PNNI signalling and call control, ILMI and IPOA.
