Jon Herring graduated from J. Sargeant Reynolds College in 1979 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Opticianry, was certified by the American Board of Opticianry and Licensed in the State of Virginia. Later, upon successful completion of an examination and all other requirements, Jon was designated a Master in Ophthalmic Optics by the ABO. He moved to Houston, TX where he worked in and managed the optical shops for several independent ophthalmologists where he honed his skills for over twenty-five years. During that time, Jon was privileged to participate in several Ophthalmic Mission trips with Benevolent Missions International, Woodridge Baptist Church and Optometry Giving Sight providing eye care to the underserved in many areas of the world including Belize, El Salvador, Turkey, and Haiti. Jon has served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Certified Opticians Association of Texas (C.O.A.T.) and has served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Ophthalmic Professionals Society (T.O.P.S.) Jon has published several articles for the trade magazine Vision Care Product News including the lead article in the inaugural issue. Jon joined the Vision Source team in 2006 where he could share his knowledge of optics and practical optical shop management experience with the Vision Source membership. Currently a consultant in the optical industry, Jon remains committed to the belief that the best eye care is delivered by independent ECPs and, to that end, is dedicated to supporting independent Optometrists, Opticians and the independent suppliers serving them.
