Afghanistan

I work in Afghanistan travelling from base to base as an electrical inspector where I am responsible for ensuring all existing work, repairs and new construction are completed to the relevant electrical regulations. I audit site electrical offices to confirm that work is being carried out to the contractual requirements and ensure correct material is ordered for electrical repairs. I also ensure that the Health and Safety policy is adhered to as well as conduct training of site electricians in the BS 7671 Regulations and company policies.

I formed an electrical contracting company and worked on a sub-contract basis within the UK between overseas contracts.Main duties performed: I was responsible for the design, construction, testing and Inspection of electrical installations, including public houses, warehouses, clubs and restaurants, as well as working as a sub-contractor on various projects. In addition, I was responsible for ordering material and supervising large and small workforces. I successfully liaised with clients to ensure a first class customer service was provided and ensured all work was completed to budget and to the time frame allowed. I also ensured all work was completed to the regulations so that public and entertainment licences could be granted.

Tallil, Iraq

I was employed on a 6 month contract in Tallil, Iraq working with a team of electricians and generator mechanics maintaining and running 10 CAT 1.6 Megawatt generators supplying power to military and civilian accommodation. I was responsible for inspecting and maintaining 11 ring main units, 13 11KV-400V step down transformers and 2 small sub stations.

I was employed by KBR in Iraq as an electrical foreman and was responsible for testing and inspecting distribution systems from the source through to the end user to ensure all life, health and safety issues were identified and repaired. I was also responsible for correct line diagrams being submitted and ensured that all electricians were performing their duties within the scope of work.

I worked as a sub-contractor for various large firms on a contract basis. Projects included The Eurostar Terminal, DRA Farnborough, various Ministry of Defence installations, hospitals and schools.

Worldwide

On completion of service in HM Forces I travelled through South East Asia before reaching Australia where I worked on a remote cattle ranch maintaining the generators.

On completion of military field training and electrical apprenticeship, was deployed throughout the world on postings, including Desert Storm, Northern Ireland, Bahrain, Canada, the Arctic Circle and Germany.
