About Jon M.
I'm currently a Systems Communications Engineer with Balfour Beatty, a railroad construction contractor. I'm currently responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing communications related task orders. Mostly, I manage fiber optic projects, but have a hand in wayside telemetry and land mobile radio installations.I was previously employed with the County of San Bernardino as a Telecom Engineer, but was on temporary assignment for the COVID-19 response. I was initially brought over to assist in rapidly deploying and supporting technology (cellular, data, computers, radio) into austere environments, moving quickly to support ever-changing operational requirements. That morphed into oversight of warehouse operations, planning test kit distribution and storage, oversight and planning of vaccine deliveries, coordinating field site deployment, supply of medical equipment, continuing operations, and demobilizations, and finally into planning for a ground-up warehouse buildout and move for when operations cease.Prior to that, I have 12 years of experience with the Union Pacific Railroad in their Telecom department as a Senior Electronics Technician. We worked on SCADA/Telemetry systems for wayside signaling, IP networks, point-to-point microwave, VHF analog land mobile radio systems, Automated Equipment Identifier (RFID) systems, analog and digital telephony as well as various other electronic equipment.Through my affiliation and volunteer work with the Fire Department, I’ve also accumulated a good amount of incident response training, so I am versed in mission critical radio systems in an operational environment, and how the pieces fit together to form the Big Picture.I bring a broad base of technical knowledge to the table as well as an understanding of project management and how dependencies fit together. I can manage expectations with stakeholders, clients, and customers. I'm skilled at communicating complex technical issues to a varied non-technical audience.
