About Jon Ochoa De Eribe

Greetings! Thanks for reaching me. My name is Jon and I am a biologist, with a master in biotechnology, a PhD in plant molecular virology and a postgraduate master in business administration. At present I work as a Complement Requirement Manager for the International Space Station (ISS) project at ESA-ESTEC in the Netherlands. It’s a very dynamic leadership and coordination role that interfaces with many operational and management teams from ESA, NASA, CSA, JAXA and other international partners. Together I help coordinate and achieve the science performed on ISS as part of the European science and utilization objectives. I feel much rewarded in working for this project, and contributing towards the future of human space exploration. We are explorers by nature. Space and the Ocean depths our next frontiers. I am also very interested in viruses, as I am a virologist for training. We know so very little still about viruses. This century will be all about domesticating viruses. Did you know the ocean is the biggest reserve of viruses in the planet? You know now! I have worked as a scientist in academic research since 2006, and lived in multiple countries, including Japan. I also have a strong passion for flying airplanes, scuba diving, sailing and adventure sports. I am a scuba diver instructor, technical and commercial offshore diver. I am an explorer, like many, learning on the go. Thanks for taking time in reading my Bio.
