Established a new business unit focussed upon innovative product/service research and development. A pipelne of innovative new products successfully delivered have included M-KOPA's PAYG Smartphone, a fully solar Fridge, and a range of digital financial services for agricultural customers. Funding for Labs was primarily achieved through grant funding from a range of donors and Foundations.

Whilst exploring various opportunities I provided business advisory services including to: M4D Utilities Fund; business plan for digital innovation business unit; bid planning and preparation.

Principal in Coffey International Development’s Economic Growth Practice. With an MBA in Management and Marketing and 20 years experience as a manager within both for-profit and not-for-profit organisations, and 13 years experience managing large scale international donor funded programmes. For the last seven years, have been involved in the development and management of programmes that seek to engage the private sector in pro-poor economic development (including the DFID Financial Deepening Challenge Fund, the DFID Business Linkages Challenge Fund, the AsDB Enterprise Challenge Funds in Vietnam, and the AusAID Enterprise Challenge Fund). Arising from this experience, have led Coffey’s work for private clients across a range of sectors, supporting their contribution to pro-poor economic development. Manage a portfolio of assignments for private sector clients, supporting their development of products and services, which have both commercial and social benefit. With more than 300 active projects in 90-plus countries, Coffey's international development team delivers projects with in-country partners across the developing world. Our clients include the UK, US and Australian governments. We also undertake research and evaluation assignments across multiple policy areas for the European Commission and other public sector clients.

1990–2002: Co-founder and Director, Coral Cay Conservation (CCC) Limited. In 1990 Jonathon co-founded the organisation Coral Cay Conservation Ltd. (CCC) which became an internationally renowned, award-winning organisation that provides resources to help sustain livelihoods and alleviate poverty through the protection, restoration and management of coral reefs and tropical forests. During the period to 2002 CCC had assisted in the establishment of eight marine and terrestrial reserves worldwide, including five reserves within the area that became the Belize Barrier Reef UNESCO world heritage site. CCC received the World Aware Business Award for Effective Communication; the British Airways Tourism for Tomorrows Global Award; the first UNESCO International Marine Environment Award; and the Philippines Department of Science and Technology “Best Managed Reef Award”.
