Coach Jon Sioredas has orchestrated a truly remarkable revitalization of the Mustang wrestling program. Upon his arrival, the Mustangs found themselves without a single NCAA qualifier. Under Coach Sioredas' leadership, his program has embarked on an incredible journey and the Mustangs climbed from last place to the Top 25 within five years, broke into the Top 10 in year six, and finished undefeated in the Pac-12 in year seven. Now entering his eighth season as the head wrestling coach for Cal Poly in 2023-24, Sioredas is coming off his most impressive season yet. His exceptional achievements in this recent season culminated in his selection as the Pac-12 Coach of the Year. A well-deserved recognition for guiding his team to an undefeated season in the Pac-12, posting noteworthy victories against formidable foes No. 8 Arizona State, No. 26 Oregon State and Stanford. The unblemished record allowed the Mustangs to secure the Pac-12 dual meet title — an historic accomplishment and a feat unparalleled in the institution's 37-year history within the Pac-12. The team has also excelled in the classroom with a school record-setting GPA and a perfect APR score in 2023. Coach Sioredas' leadership extended to the realm of fundraising, where his efforts surpassed historical benchmarks setting institutional records in both amount raised and number of donors. Coach Sioredas attributes his program’s continuous improvement to its core values. As Sioredas describes it, “the culmination of our successes on the mat and in the classroom are guided by our core values, which guide and encourage our student-athletes and coaches to make decisions that are aligned with our goals.
