As Technical Fellow for the Process Monitoring and Control team, I am responsible for its technical output and project delivery, as well as defining and maintaining our research roadmap. I have line management of technical leads and project engineers, and provide supervision for PhD candidates. In this role, I also have responsibility for scoping and planning projects, budgeting, recruitment, business development, and working with other technical fellows to progress the Machining Group’s overall research strategy. I am also responsible for organising and hosting our internal conference - a great knowledge-sharing opportunity. I develop collaboration opportunities with other AMRC groups and University departments, as well as external partners and research organisations. Representing the team and the AMRC at external events, such as conference presentations and technical meetings, offers me the opportunity to expand my network further.

As a classroom teacher, my responsibilities include planning and delivering lessons to children of differing abilities across the 11-16 age range, monitoring the progress of pupils through recording and analysing data, communicating with parents and carers both orally and in writing, caring for the social and emotional welfare of children, setting up and maintaining the departmental area of the school VLE, and reviewing the progress of children with a special educational need using assessment data.

The role of a trainee involved many of the same tasks as a qualified attorney. These roles included: managing and working on a number of different cases at the same time, advising clients in writing on any developments with their applications and how to proceed, drafting patent applications and filing amendments to the applications when required, responding to and arguing against objections received on an application from examiners at an intellectual property office, and acquiring an in-depth knowledge of the law and procedures for patent prosecution.
