About Jonas Brown
As a PhD candidate in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California—Los Angeles Samueli School of Engineering, I conduct research with Distinguished Professor Alexander A. Balandin. My research interests involve the fabrication and characterization of nanodevices made of low-dimensional quantum van der Waals materials and heterostructures using various lithography, etching, and metal deposition techniques. In 2021 I joined Professor Balandin's Nano Device Laboratory (NDL) and Phonon Optimized Engineered Materials Laboratory (POEM) at the University of California - Riverside in 2021. As a Graduate Student Researcher, I received a Master's in Electrical Engineering in 2023. I received a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy Physics (2020) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with Comprehensive Honors. Here, I worked with Professor Victor Brar focusing on the growth of graphene on copper substrates and the fabrication of various van der Waals heterostructures. With the Brar Lab, I also worked on understanding the perturbed surface states of various materials using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM).
Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Customer Service, Management, Research, and 12 others.

Phd Candidate
As a PhD candidate in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California—Los Angeles Samueli School of Engineering, I conduct research under the guidance of Distinguished Professor Alexander A. Balandin. My research focuses on the fabrication and characterization of nanodevices made of low-dimensional quantum van der Waals materials, magnetic materials, and heterostructures. I employ a range of fabrication techniques including various lithography methods, etching processes, and metal deposition approaches. Exploring the quantum and classical behavior of advanced materials and devices requires a multifaceted experimental approach. My expertise lies in probing charge-density-wave materials, semiconductor diodes, magnetic materials, and novel device structures using electrical, magnetic, thermal, and noise measurements. These experiments are performed on nanoscale device channels across a wide range of temperatures, magnetic fields, electric fields, and light exposures. To complement these experimental methods I also perform simulations of device structures to verify heating effects, strain dynamics, and various electrical and magnetic phenomena.
Phd Researcher
At the University of California - Los Angeles I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the Samueli School of Engineering with Professor Alexander A. Balandin. I am involved in the nanofabrication and characterization of electronic devices using low-dimensional charge-density-wave quantum materials. This research area involves exploring the unique properties and behaviors of these materials at the nanoscale and leveraging them to develop novel electronic devices with enhanced performance and functionality.
Graduate Student Researcher
At the University of California - Riverside, I conducted his Masters in Electrical Engineering with Professor Balandin's Nano Device Laboratory (NDL) and the Phonon Optimized Engineered Materials Laboratory (POEM). In 2021, I joined the group as a Materials Science and Engineering Ph.D. student at the Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering and obtained a Master's in Electrical Engineering graduating in 2023. My research interest concerned nanodevice fabrication of low dimensional charge-density-wave materials.
