I am a current University of Maryland Global Campus student and veteran who is about to graduate in the spring of 2020. I am a recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity and I am pursuing certifications in Security+, CISSP, CISA, CEH, and Network+.I took an ethical hacking class where I learned the concepts and tools for penetration testing a system. I had initial exposure to applications such as Wireshark, NMAP, Aircrack-ng, and Metasploit Framework in KALI Linux.I also learned about how cyber security policies are drafted and implemented at an organizational level.I learned a lot about the concepts of cyber security while at university and what stuck with me the most is defending the "triad" of cyber security, which is confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive data. The OSI model also was a concept that I learned well in my core classes.While I served in the U.S. Army, my job was equivalent to a health inspector on the civilian side, we trained to inspect dining facilities and water facilities that soldiers used for sustenance in the field. My administrative duties were comms and assistant personnel records maintainer for my unit, these duties required me to maintain a secret clearance. Since being honorably discharged from the military in 2013, my clearance expired, but if required I am willing to reapply for it.I am currently looking for a Cybersecurity internship or an entry level position that will help me develop my skills and experiences that I will need to further my career. This field excites me everyday and that excitement fuels my drive to learn about it everyday.
