The Blue Blazers Investment Committee is a student-run investment fund that manages an equity portfolio of over $1.2 million. The committee was founded in 1996 with an initial investment of $ 200,000 from the Westminster Board of Trustees.During my tenure as the CEO of the group I: - Managed the portfolio by working with the CFO to mitigate portfolio risk by evaluating allocations and upholding portfolio weighting standards of the committee. - Led biweekly meetings, updating the committee about market trends and how they affect our portfolio.- Wrote reports and presented before the Westminster College Board of Trustees on a quarterly basis. - Played a role in planning the committee's biennial trip to New York City by arranging logistics for flights, accommodation, and visits to the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, Bloomberg, and JP Morgan.- Facilitated the partnership between Junior Achievement (JA) and the committee to teach seniors at a local high school about the stock market. - Organized the committee's first-ever stock pitch competition for high school seniors at a local high school

I was fortunate to have been amongst researchers selected to investigate how South African NPOs in education, as a valuable stakeholder group in the education system, were responding to the worldwide COVID 19 pandemic. As researchers we also had to use the information, we acquired to put forth recommendations on how NPOs can be sustainable during times of uncertainty. - My area of focus and contribution was on the financial sustainability of NPOs - I analyzed how the 2008/9 financial crisis affected NPOs across the world and what was their response to the financial crisis. - I analyzed how different governments across the world were supporting NPO’s during times of economic difficulty.

Worked along with four fellow Bezos Scholars to organize a three days festival to equip 80 participants between the ages of 16 – 20 with entrepreneurial (design thinking) and leadership skills. The participants who came from throughout South Africa were challenged to apply the skills they had acquired at the festival to address some of the most pressing social ills in their communities. - Arranged accommodation, transportation, and catering for the 80 participants. - Planned and moderated a panel discussion titled “Youth in Entrepreneurship – Driving Change on the African continent” - Wrote reports and presented before members of the board. - Organized for three prominent guest speakers to speak at the opening and closing ceremony of the festival. - Drew up contracts for partnerships with other student enterprises at the African Leadership Academy to facilitate breakout sessions. - Designed the schedule for the festival.
