Jonathan Berney is the Managing Partner of AIC, a global investment and management advisory platform for data centres and digital infrastructure. Jonathan continues to be the Co-Founder and Senior Board Advisor of Chayora Holdings, an international infrastructure investor, developer and operator of data centre campuses in China. Chayora is developing hyperscale data centre sites in key cities: a 25,000 rack campus in Tianjin (to serve Beijing); and in Shanghai where we have a 10,000 rack campus. Along with fellow Co-Founder Oliver Jones, he led the business from business plan through multiple rounds of funding culminating in closing a multi hundred million series D funding round with EdgeConneX backed by EQT, the Swedish Private Equity Company. This added to Chayora’s US$180m Series C round with the investment made by Actis Capital. As former Board Member and Chief Operating Officer, Jonathan led the creation of the Chayora Operating Model, creating a World Class Team in Chayora that has acquired and is developing two campuses in China with up to 270MW of Hyperscale IT capacity along with all of the necessary power, telecommunications and regulatory infrastructure necessary to deliver for increasingly demanding customers in China sourced both domestically and globally. He also led the securing of Chayora’s first customer in Tianjin and authored Chayora’s first ESG report and initiatives.With over 30 years of international business experience, in Technology, Digital Infrastructure, Finance and Property, Jonathan specialises in creating and leading high growth, ambitious, entrepreneurial businesses, raising capital, and creating teams that deliver in a range of geographic and industry environments. He does this as an Advisor, Executive or Non-Executive.Jonathan is also an Director of Morphose Capital Partners, a specialist M&A advisory business focused on outsource services businesses.Before co-founding Chayora, Jonathan worked as an analyst with Cazenove in London, was CEO of a .COM, Head of Implementation of an early mobile commerce platform with Vodafone and more recently was a Regional Managing Partner with EC Harris helping organisations with business critical assets transform and outsource including the development of mission critical data centres across Asia. Jonathan was a Director of Tarmac, an International Contractor before the age of 30 and led the company’s development in areas as diverse as Japan, Yemen, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Bosnia specialising in areas where complex financing and partnerships were required.
