For my third and fourth co-op rotations at Cedar Springs, I moved to the mill's process control area. In this new role, I developed technical skills with the mill’s main control systems: Honeywell Experion, TDC 3000, and Allen Bradley PLCs. My primary projects included completing a first-out project for the mill’s non-condensible gas (NCG) system along with the transition of obsolete Allen-Bradley SLCs to Experion. The NCG first-out project included PLC-5 logic, GUS and Experion graphics, and VBA graphic scripting. The project transitioning SLC hardware and logic to Experion included logic in Experion PKS Control Builder along with the modification or creation of electrical drawings and loop sheets in AutoCAD. As part of the transition, existing I/O modules are to be replaced by Pheonix Contact VIPER hardware. During both rotations, the mill also had a cold outage. To support the outage, my responsibilities included new logic and interlocks for a lube unit, alarm reports, uninterruptible power supply maintenance support, hardware support for GUS stations, and interlock troubleshooting as part of start-up support.

Spent summer 2022 and spring 2023 semesters as a Co-op at the Georgia-Pacific Cedar Springs Paper Mill. These two rotations were in the Fiberline area, where an in-depth understanding of the various processes including the Pulp Mill and Caustic areas was developed. Worked on various projects including Brown Stock Washer optimization and Green Liquor Heater Cost Analysis. Assisted in the trialing of a new defoamer supplier. Participated in the development and integration of various control loops into DCS and the paper mill.
