Moving into a Law Enforcement job takes some adjustment but having the military background has better prepared me. Stepping up and volunteering helps my career. Learning to read people is key in my current job with Customs and is an ever evolving tool. As a procurement and purchasing specialist in the US Coast Guard, I facilitated the internal requisition process and managed purchasing activities for provisions, equipment and other critical supplies and services. Dedicated to meticulous recordkeeping, I coordinated all logistics, asset management and accounting functions for multiple units. Throughout my exemplary 21 year military career, I demonstrated precision, efficiency and compliance with regulations. I have a good eye for detail and can notice patterns and errors that others might miss. My research has resulted in significant savings related to lapses in account reconciliation, vendor billing errors and inaccurate fleet vehicle management. I continually sought ways to streamline processes and automate procedures to increase efficiency. In my last role, I created and shared Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to improve expense tracking, asset management and inventory control. While with Joint Interagency Task Force West at Camp H.M. Smith in Hawaii, I collaborated with the IT Department on an electronic requisition routing and approval system that enabled real time status and tracking.
