Assures implementation of NASA safety, reliability, maintainability, and quality assurance policies, plans, techniques, procedures, and standards in Human Space Flight and Technology Demonstration programs. Provides oversight and monitors the implementation of NASA safety and mission assurance program policy and guidelines as applied to the Human Space Flight programs, including government furnished equipment, facilities, and software, from concept definition through operational use.Organizes and leads special teams of government and contractor experts to assess the safety and integrity of Human Space Flight and Technology Demonstration program plans, policies, guidelines, and procedures. Manages and performs safety and mission assurance management review and oversight functions for the Human Space Flight programs and subsystems.Develops and promotes innovative safety initiatives for the Human Space Flight and Technology Demonstration programs to improve safety and risk management. Continually refines the safety and mission assurance program to incorporate evolving technologies.Leads special studies of critical hardware/software problems, assuring that problems are reported and properly analyzed. Interfaces with and supports coordination of Human Space Flight and Technology Demonstration SMA activities with program/project management and safety personnel to assure effective communication and resolution of critical safety problems.
