My mental model of data literacy has three pillars: 1. Understand the nature of your data: where it comes from, how to join to it, how old it is, is it consistent, etc.2. Understand the analysis you want to complete: The best idea won't work if you use data which isn't suitable for that purpose. Know the limitations of your data and your model assumptions.3. Iterate by starting with simple models or building a minimal working example to demonstrate the concept and receive feedback rapidly. As projects gain traction/get updated, standardize and transform them into templates while following the "don't repeat yourself" philsophy.As the actuary responsible for California rate-level indications, rate filings, and class plan updates (and filings), I learned to embrace an agile workflow. I prioritize requests based on urgency and relevance to achieving long-term goals. I value concise real-time feedback to ensure I'm efficiently driving the business forward.Lastly, I strive to clearly communicate complex ideas and timelines to management and my colleagues.
