Development of a new WPF application for insurance management, ported from Pascal (Paradox) legacy application. Using WPF, C#, SQL and Crystal Reports in a TFS controlled environment.

This was a short consultancy position which involved the following pieces of work:• Investigating and documenting existing company-wide intranet site• Performing fixes and updates to existing site• Coding new version of the intranet to match the new brand• Setting up team development environment and procedures• Proposals for improving site usability, size, security and maintainabilityThe work covered various technologies in multiple legacy versions:PHP, SQL Server 2000/2005, HTML 4, CSS 2, Dreamweaver CS3

This was a client piece of work conducted for a local business based in the centre of Leeds.The project was to create a WPF based retail point of sale system which could be used in the retail outlet in Leeds, and also rolled out to other stores for the comanys upcoming expansion. The app handles the point of sale in stores, as well as stock/product management, order management and a full MI suite.The final product saw a client application created which interacts easily with all aspects of a retail counter from the barcode scanner, thermal receipt printer to the shop cash drawer. The application also includes support for touch screen monitors as/when the functionality is required.The major selling point of this final product is that the database created for application is hosted in the cloud, so it can be connected to from all of the company stores, as well as being able to run the backend for the companys CMS website, which will be our next project for the client. The application uses WCF secure services, which can be reused for web service calls on the CMS site.Technologies: WPF, WCF, Entity Framework, SQL Server 2008, MS POS

Following the merger of HBOS with Lloyds, I moved into a more web-oriented role to develop the new insurance e-commerce websites for the Lloyds brand, while still continuing with my support and maintenance of systems and databases from the legacy HBOS infrastructure.

Developing large scale, high traffic image and workflow systems, databases and insurance websites. Using the latest in Microsoft development tools, patterns and practices to create high-end products for the insurance division of one of the countries largest banks.

Manager and trainer within the insurance call centre, training staff on using the systems and applications I later went on to develop. I managed around 140 different members of staff in this period, a lot of whom I worked with again within the IT department of the same company.
