About Jonathan Dearman

Jonathan Dearman first learned about real estate from his grandmother, Bertha Flemming, who started a real estate company in the 1950s to provide opportunities for her community to own property. All of her grandkids spent some time working with her, and Jonathan was no exception. He started in high school before earning his degree from the University of San Francisco; then, he earned his broker license straight out of college and returned to work with his grandmother.A decorated former teacher, Jonathan follows the same service-first philosophy in real estate that he used to in teaching. His years as a teacher were some of the most satisfying of his life — when he got to be on the front lines guiding the youth of the Bay Area and helping to shape the future. Jonathan was featured in the book “Teachers Have It Easy: The Big Sacrifices and Small Salaries of America’s Teachers” as well as the film “American Teacher,” which highlighted the inequities of teaching in America.Teaching high school taught Jonathan how to be a better Realtor®. As an agent, he uses skills that he learned at the front of the classroom including mindful communication, strategic planning, and problem-solving variant issues with varying principles.Today, Jonathan remains active with several educational nonprofits, including The Teacher Salary Project, which is dedicated to making sure teachers are paid a livable wage so they can focus on the kids instead of thinking about their next rent check or grocery bill. He has also been on the board of 826 Valencia, a tutorial program supporting young writers. Jonathan also serves on the board of the San Francisco Coalition of Essential Small Schools, which assists teachers, communities, school leaders, students, and families to ensure everyone has access to education. They recognized Jonathan’s service to education at their fifth annual silent auction in 2018 — an honor he is still extremely proud of today.
