My name is Jonathan Dinsmore. I have masters’ degrees in Physics, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering. By trade it has proven easiest in Minnesota the past two decades to find computer work, but my first love has always been science and math—tools that help us make the best sense of the world we live in. In my career, I have sought to design and develop software tools that provide visibility and promote the application of science and math to complex problems. I love all the layers to software development (design, coding, testing, and documentation) and working with teams on all kinds of projects, but I thrive best when there is meaning behind the software I create—whether that meaning is found in science, math, or engineering. Each new degree and new job has broadened my set of skills to develop more modern tools and widened the problem spaces to which I can apply them.I am a detail-oriented polymath (generalist) and a born problem-solver, especially where computer programming and math/science are involved. For the better part of two decades I have worked at several large corporations (General Mills, Boston Scientific, and 3M) as well as smaller businesses (Aspect Automation, InControl, and Knoblesdorff), mostly with a focus on manufacturing and material handling (often related to automated process control or data/recipe management).My best unique skills are my confidence, my creativity, and my cooperative spirit. My confidence stems from my faith and being unafraid of mistakes knowing that they only make me stronger. My creativity directly helps me when I'm designing HMI interface screens or SSRS web reports for production lines. Additionally it helps in arriving at unique approaches to solve minor problems where the usual approach fails for some reason. I am more than happy to do my own thing, but only so long as there’s also a spirit of teamwork. I've worked under a variety of SCRUM-like techniques (daily/weekly stand-ups, lightning rounds, etc.), as well as weekly code-review and bi-monthly risk mitigation meetings. Usually my projects involve me being an active part of a cross-functional team and collaborating on the design approach and functional specifics we're going to follow as well as any troubleshooting efforts.
