My work was aimed at discerning the molecular function of a potential tumor suppressor gene identified from an earlier screen by interrogating two purported molecular functions, N-linked Glycosylation and magnesium transport. In addition I am aiding in the design of function, high-throughput nanobody production for the Drosophila proteome. This involved vector design, transfection and protein purification that could produced and validated at scale.

Normal duties included restructuring included budgeting, consulting on personnel and payroll decisions, ordering consumables and necessary reagents, maintaining lab equipment and executing and negotiating maintenance contracts for select equipment. The work required familiarity with university, state and federal funding policies as well as Oracle Peoplesoft Finance. Active inventory of lab intellectual property, software licenses and IT equipment was folded into this role. This work was performed concurrently with duties as an Postgraduate Research Assistant.

Focused on using genetic approaches in Drosophila to dissect the molecular machinery conferring stem cells with multidrug resistance phenotypes. My work aimed first to understand which genes were necessary for resistance phenotypes and second to understand the regulation of these genes at the pre- and post-transcriptional level as well as the broad molecular networks these genes function in.

Managed the transition of management in an active research setting. The transition involved restructuring the physical lab environment, finances and ordering/ receiving. My work focused on conducting a screen in collaboration with the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences to design a high-throughput, accessible and affordable screening platform to examine the effect of common environmental chemicals. My work also characterized the molecular mechanisms underpinning the toxicity of one such chemical identified in our screen.

Taught lessons for children aged 3-8 and small adult groups, focusing on comfort in the water and fundamental stoke basics. Extensive experience in lifeguarding.

Worked with boys aged 7-15 to promote interpersonal skills and independence as well as a rewarding summer experience. Responsibilities included both aquatic, cabin and general safety. Taught American Red Cross levels 3 through 5. Held responsibilities in cabins with 10 boys aged 9-13.
