I am a graduate of St. John Fisher University with a B.S. accounting degree with the hopes of becoming a CPA. I was looked up to as a leader by my football team not necessarily through my words, but by my actions and work ethic. I am someone who listens to instruction well takes any feedback or advice, and immediately applies it. I worked as a stocker at Walmart which required me to work on a team and be relied on by my peers to get a share of the work done. It helped me understand the importance of a single role in an operation. I recently finished a tax internship with Insero & Co. CPAs, LLP where I was introduced to a lot of new software very quickly. Through training, I had to keep up with instructions to be able to complete the work assigned. For someone who had never done an internship before it was very overwhelming at first, however building the courage and asking my co-workers for help I was able to catch up more efficiently. This opportunity taught me about working in a business-like environment with deadlines on the horizon. It forced me to plan my schedule and pace myself to ensure that I was keeping up with my work and asking questions along the way as needed. This was the perfect introduction for me to the real business world as I just graduated from my undergrad and I hope to continue to refine my current skills and develop new ones as well. All my college career I've been told everyone needs an accountant, and that has been the main driver for me to complete my degree and become an accountant. In addition to this, the wide range of opportunities that are in this profession will provide me with a lot of options when deciding what I want to do with my life as well as ensuring my skills are being used to their fullest. An accounting pathway also guides the pathway of having a work-life balance. To me, having a good work-life balance is something I value, especially as I get older. Accounting provides me with everything I look for in a career and I am grateful and blessed to be able to pursue career.
